December 30
"In
this you greatly rejoice,
though now
for a little while, if need be,
you
have been grieved by various trials,
THAT
the GENUINENESS of
your faith,
being much more precious
than gold that perishes,
though it IS
TESTED by fire,
may be found to
praise, honor, and glory
at the
revelation of Jesus Christ..."
1
Peter 1:6-7
Nothing is real that has not been tested.
You may say that you have faith, but unless you are tested in a
difficult circumstance, your faith remains words only.
You may
say you love unconditionally as the Lord desires us to do, but unless
there has been someone in your life difficult to love, professing to
love remains words only.
The Lord counts a tested faith so
valuable that he says it exceeds that of gleeming gold. Every
believer is going to be called upon to demonstrate his faith in
trials that seem very grievous. The more severe the trial, the more
valuable the result.
Salvation is a free gift. But the rewards
of heaven are earned. It is in "being grieved by various trials"
that the genuineness of what we profess is tested. And when we pass
those tests, though we seem to be tested by fire so hot we nearly
fail, yet through the grace of God which he gives in all tests, the
result will be much praise and honor and glory when finally we
stand before him. Then ...it will be worth it all.
Keep
your eyes on the prize. It’s eternal.
