Guidelines For Living As A Child of God

December 10

"Oh, that you had heeded my commandments!
Then your peace would have been like a river,
and your righteousness like the waves of the sea."
Isaiah 48:18

The commandments were given so that we would be successful in life. When a parent tells a child what is forbidden, it is not to lord it over the child and wield his power, but to teach him that following will bring happiness and disobeying will bring hurt. Many times the child will not understand, there are things we can't explain to a young child. But we lead our children in the ways of success hoping they will obey and follow.

This is repeated in another way in Galatians:

"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked;

for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
For he who sows to his flesh
will of the flesh reap corruption,
but he who sows to the Spirit
will of the Spirit reap everlasting life."
Galatians 6:7-8

God shows us the way to happiness and success and we have been given free will to choose – whether to obey or reject the ways of God.

"Teach me your way, O Lord,

and lead me in a smooth path,
because of my enemies."

Psalm 27:11

Oh yes, we have an enemy ...who greatly desires to deceive us and lead us to destruction. But God has shown us right ways, so that we NOT be devoured by our vile enemy.

Obey the principles in God's Word, that you might receive his blessings and find happiness and purpose in life. Although there will be trials and suffering in this lifetime, those who belong to the Lord will be guided through safely, and will see his loving fingerprints all over every story.
