"Walk in wisdom toward those who are
outside,
redeeming the time.
Let your speech always be with
grace,
seasoned with salt,
that you may know how you ought to
answer each one."
Colossians 4:5-6
Wisdom is something
we don't see much of, but it is absolutely necessary in the work to
which you are called. ASK for it therefore, SEEK it out as fine gold.
It will be your most valuable commodity.
You may be the only
Bible unsaved people will read. Always remember that you represent
the Lord before the world. When they attack you, criticize you, speak
falsely about you - know that this is the way the world acts, that's
what comes naturally to them. They live in an entirely different
kingdom than you do, a world which is steeped in all that is carnal,
in all that is sin. When they attack you they are acting according to
their nature, according to the ways of the world. Always keep this in
mind.
If you really understand this, you will be able to
perceive that truly your battle is not against flesh and blood, but
against the workings of Satan against you. If you keep that in mind,
you won't hate the people who come against you. It's not them, do not
take it personally, it's Satan speaking through them. Do not be
surprised and above all, do not let it arouse anger in you, because
that is Satan's intent - that you who represent Christ might be shown
to be carnal.
Let your speech always be with grace,
representing the mercy and love of Jesus Christ as he reaches out to
them through you. They may reject you, but the Christ they see in you
will stay with them and perhaps draw them to the One you represent.
