12 Characteristics of False Ministers

October 3

"...that we should no longer be children,
tossed to and fro and carried about
with every wind of doctrine,
by the trickery of men,
and the cunning craftiness
whereby they lie in wait to deceive..."
Ephesians 4:14

This is a very stern word from the apostle Paul, warning believers to BEWARE of false ministers, con men who will seduce their audience through deceit. If someone were to ask you how you would be able to spot such false ministers, what would you say? Do you feel you could spot them?

Here are some things to watch for:

1. They will not feature Jesus Christ in their sermons. The emphasis will be on YOU.
2. Whatever they do say about Christ, will be only about his love.
3. They will put minimal emphasis on the Scriptures, the Word of God.
4. They will misrepresent the Scriptures, twisting them
to mean what you want to hear.
5. Their message will be a feel-good message.
6. They will be strong on "tolerance," avoiding mention of sin.
7. They will not speak on things of eternal value.
    “Have your best life NOW.”
8. They will not teach on anything that will make you uncomfortable.
9. They will not affirm the Scriptural emphasis on sin and hell.
10. They will never tell you to pick up your CROSS and follow Christ. (Luke 9:23)
11. They will have large congregations, because feel-good message
fill the pews (and the money basket.)
12. On that day, Jesus will say to them, "I never knew you. Depart from me... "
     (Matt 7:21-23)

These ministers have a very likeable personality. People are drawn to them. The only way you will be able to recognize them for what they are, is through a thorough knowledge of the Word of God - and not just the pleasing passages.
