Why Three Crosses?

April 7

The crosses on each side of Jesus represented all of mankind.

Mankind is divided into just two groups:

The cross on the left represents all of humanity which rejects Jesus.

"Then one of the criminals who were hanged
blasphemed him, saying, 'If you are the Christ,
save yourself and us.'"   Luke 23:39

The cross on the right represents all of humanity which receives him.

vs 42:
“But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying,
'Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under
the same condemnation ...Then he said to Jesus,
'Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom.'"

Jesus's said to the one who believed in him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise."

It's not a matter of goodness or evil. It's not a matter of what good works a person has done.

"For there is no difference; for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God..."
Romans 3:22-23.

We are ALL convicted under sin. If you've ever broken God's law, you've broken the entire law – just as if you break a glass, even if it's just one crack you've broken the whole glass.

So every one of us is represented by one of the two convicted sinners on each side of Jesus.

It's a matter of being humble enough to admit guilt and accept the One who bore our sin in himself on that cross, so that we might be forgiven.

If you don't know Jesus Christ, turn to him now, believe in him, and receive eternal life, just as the forgiven sinner did as he was received by Jesus.
