"Let every soul be subject to
the governing authorities,
for there is no
authority except from God,
and the
authorities that exist are appointed by God."
Romans
13:1
In other words, obey the laws of the land. But
keep in mind always that you are obeying as unto the Lord. Are we to
obey when there is a harsh dictator? Yes, to the extent that you can
without sin. When there are laws that are obviously sinful, your
first allegiance is to God. But don't spend your time being picky
over issues because then your focus is on the issues and debating the
issues and you'll lose sight of your purpose which is to live a life
of honor as unto the Lord. In general, respect the laws of the land
you live in, but do it from a right heart.
"Therefore you
must be subject,
not only because of
wrath
but also for conscience’ sake.
For
because of this you also pay taxes,
for
they are God’s ministers
attending continually to this very
thing."
Romans 13:5-7
When
you pay your taxes, remember that you are doing so as unto the Lord.
Do not cheat on your taxes. When you're in your car, obey the speed
limit. The laws of the land are in place to keep law and order.
Submit to them.
Never, ever, be of the mindset of trying to
get away with whatever you can get away with from a rebellious heart.
Let the peace of God reign in your heart by doing right without
begrudging. Honor the Lord in all that you do and do it from the
heart, even when no one is going to know. Integrity is the attitude
of the heart unto righteousness even when - especially when -- no one
is going to know but the Lord himself.
