The Harder Road

December 3

"But brother goes to law against brother,
and that before unbelievers!
Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you
that you go to law against one another.
Why do you not rather accept wrong?
Why do you not rather let yourselves
be cheated?"
1 Corinthians 6:6-7

Sometimes the Scripture will test our faith to the limit. It's hard to imagine anyone in this litigious society having the depth of faith and commitment to Christ and his Word to actually forego going to court against another believer when he's been wronged, but rather to accept wrong. To let oneself be cheated.

But what a manifest demonstration of the Spirit of God within, in anyone who has that depth of faith and commitment.

"But I tell you not to resist an evil person.

But whoever slaps you on your right cheek,
turn the other to him also.
If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic,
let him have your cloak also.
And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two."
Matthew 5:39-41

vs 44-45

"But I say to you, love your enemies,
bless those who curse you,
do good to those who hate you,
and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
that you may be sons of your Father in heaven;"

We are called to a deeper walk, following God and not the world. Few can rise to this kind of faith. Many are called, but few are chosen.

The believer is called to a Kingdom whose principles are the direct opposite from the principles of the world. It takes courage to walk with the Lord, it takes a faith so strong that it will move the believer in the opposite direction from the walk of those in the world.

That’s what Jesus did.

And that’s what we’re called to.
