What Do You Most Treasure?

 November 6

"My son, if you receive my words,
and treasure my commands within you,
so that you incline your ear to wisdom,
and apply your heart to understanding;
yes, if you cry out for discernment,
and lift up your voice for understanding…"
Proverbs 2:1-3

Wisdom and discernment don't come to us automatically. Look at the command words here: receive, treasure, incline, apply, cry out, lift up your voice. Walking with the Lord is not to be a passive walk. We are to TREASURE the Word of God above all. And then listen to it. And then apply it. Wisdom and discernment must be requested, cried out for.

Some read the Word of God just to fulfill a duty, just to say one has read it. Oh there is SO much more to it than that! It is the most precious thing God has given to us, "The Manufacturer's Handbook," the answer to every question and the blueprint for life.

vs 4-5:

"IF you seek her as silver,
and search for her as for hidden treasures,
THEN you will understand the fear of the Lord,
and find the knowledge of God."

People put their life energies into seeking silver and gold. But FAR more important is the Word of God. We are directed to seek for the hidden treasures ABOVE ALL ELSE, to expend our energies here and not in the world.

“But on this one will I look,

on him who is poor and of a contrite spirit,
and who trembles at my WORD.
Isaiah 66:2

If ever there was an evil time, it's now. The gates of hell have been opened and the saints of God face great dangers. Seek the Lord WITH ALL YOUR HEART. Immerse yourself in his Word. THEN - he will be your shield, he will guard your paths, and he will preserve your way.
