"For the Lord takes pleasure in his people;
he
will beautify the humble with salvation."
Psalm
149:4
It's hard to understand how God can find pleasure in a
mere man, a person limited in all things and dwelling in a fallen
human nature. Yet he says he does. His eye is on the humble he says,
and he beautifies them with all that is contained in the word
"salvation." The word salvation in Hebrew is Yeshua, and
Yeshua in English is Jesus.
God takes a fallen man and he
beautifies him with all that is in Christ. When God sees me, he sees
Jesus Christ who has purchased me with his blood and has destined me
to abide with him forever. Who can take this for granted? It is the
greatest privilege known to man.
When a person understands
this, his heart will fill with exuberance as he brings to Christ the
high praises of God, the fruit of his lips giving honor and praise to
the one who has given him life – twice - as he has brought us into
the world, and then he has brought the believer to be born again into
his Kingdom.
Praise is a mighty tool in man’s battle against
the enemy, for when a man brings praise to God something happens in
the spiritual world that will affect the physical world. Paul and
Silas were beaten and placed in a dungeon. They didn't even think to
try to name or claim or "speak" their deliverance. No, they
sang praises to God at midnight, and this resulted not only in their
deliverance but also in the salvation of all those who were there.
The simple act of surrendering to their plight and singing hymns to
God brought the salvation of all present, the response of God to the
praise given by his people.
