March 5
And in their hearts they turned back to Egypt,
saying
to Aaron, ‘Make us gods to go before us;
as
for this Moses who brought us out
of the land of Egypt, we do not
know
what has become of him.’"
Acts
7:39-40
Moses led the children of Israel out of Egypt and they
saw the parting of the Red Sea which they crossed on dry land! They
witnessed the sea flowing back and covering the Egyptians chasing
them - who all drowned. Then as they traveled, they witnessed the
provision of God who took care of their every need.
Yet when
God called Moses up to the mountain to give him the 10 Commandments,
they waited for him to return but time kept going by and they grew
impatient. How could it be that after all they witnessed, they would
give up on Moses, melt their gold and make a golden image which they
bowed down to as a god?
Impatience. What
will YOU do when you've waited long and prayers don't seem to be
answered?
Because of impatience Sarah finally gave up
and asked her husband Abraham to take her handmaiden and have a child
with her, because God's promise of a son to Sarah was old now. And
look at the result: the son born through Sarah's handmaiden is the
father of the Arabs. To this day we are paying a heavy price for
Sarah's impatience, as the Arabs terrorize the whole world - a
disaster spawned - because of impatience.
Have you given up
on God? Are you tempted to take matters into your own hands?
Don't
do it, lest you produce a disaster. Wait on the Lord.
How
long? As long as it takes.
"Though it linger, wait for it,
it
will certainly come and will not delay."
Habakkuk
2:3
