Don't Starve Yourself

February 22

"Therefore we must give
the more earnest heed

to the things we have heard,
lest we drift away."

Hebrews 2:1

Lest we drift away...

If you don't eat, your body will become weak. In fact, if you don't eat for a long period of time you will die. Likewise, if you don't feed in the Word of God, your spirit will be weak. Neglect of your spiritual life will make you vulnerable to DECEPTION and to the lures of the world concerning which you will be less and less discerning. As important as it is to eat every day, it is even more important to spend time with the Lord and feed in his Word - every day of your life. It is so vital, that the Word of God counsels us to give it the MORE EARNEST HEED.

Neglect of the Word of God leads to deception, but it's like the frog in the pot of water being slowly heated - because the heating process is slow, he remains unaware that he's being destroyed until it's too late. And so it is with our tendencies to become dull to the Word of God and ever so slowly we're brought down.

v3 3:

"...how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation..."

This is a clear warning that if one NEGLECTS his salvation he's on his own, he's a sitting duck for the enemy and he shall not escape.

Make it a daily discipline to spend time with God in prayerful communication with him, and read his Word daily. For those who do that, the Word of God becomes the very foundation of their whole lives, and their lives will proceed in a much different way than they would have otherwise.
