One Short Word With Tremendous Meaning

January 31

"The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom,
and his tongue talks of justice.
The law of his God is in his heart;
none of his steps shall slide."
Psalm 37:30-31

There is a huge difference between walking in righteousness because of fear, versus walking in righteousness because God has put his laws into our hearts and we actually WANT to do right.

How do we get there?

There's only one way.

ASK.

There is a lot of meaning implied in the word "ask." First of all, it admits one's inability. If he could do it himself, he wouldn't be asking. Second, it implies confidence in the one being asked. One wouldn't ask his neighbor something like this, because he knows his neighbor is not able to provide it so one turns to the One who can. Third, it implies that the one being asked is someone one believes in.

"...he who comes to God must believe that he IS,

and that he is a rewarder
of those who diligently seek him.

Hebrews 11:6

ASK him to put his laws into your heart and teach you his ways. Once there, you will receive "the peace that surpasses understanding." No one who has ever tasted of this would ever, EVER want to return to the way it was before. We cannot do it on our own, it will never succeed by our striving. It only comes by surrender, and by the humility in asking.

"Now to him who is able to keep you
from stumbling, and to present you faultless
before the presence of his glory

WITH EXCEEDING JOY,
to God our Savior, who alone is wise,
be glory and majesty, dominion and power,
both now and forever."
Jude 1:24-25
