Daily Devotional - January 17
"Bondservants, be obedient
to those
who are your masters
according to the
flesh, with fear and trembling,
in
sincerity of heart, as to Christ;
not
with eye-service, as men-pleasers,
but
as bondservants of Christ,
doing the
will of God from the heart,
with
goodwill doing service,
AS TO THE LORD,
and not to men..."
Ephesians
6:5-7
When the Bible mentions "bondservants" think
of your relationship to your boss on your job. Read the passage again
with that in mind.
This doesn't mean you are to have this
mindset toward your boss when he/she is good to you. No, it is rather
speaking of an ATTITUDE of heart that when you submit to this
Scripture, you are doing it "as to the Lord and not to men."
This can make all the difference in the world. The blessing of God
comes when we choose to align our hearts according to his Word,
whether difficult or not.
The night before he died Jesus
prayed, "Father, if it is your will, take this cup away from me;
nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42) What he
had to do was so difficult that he asked to avoid it if possible. But
then he said "not my will but yours be done" and proceeded
to submit to the Cross.
"Let this mind be in you which
was also in Christ Jesus..."
Philippians
2:5
God has the perfect plan for each life and it includes
having to submit to things we wish could be different. The attitude
of surrender will bring about such blessing to the believer that he
will be amazed.
Remember that when you choose to do things
God's way, you're doing it "as to the Lord." When it is
difficult, do it anyway. "As to the Lord."
