"Therefore we must give
THE MORE EARNEST HEED
to
the things we have heard,
lest we drift away.
...how shall we
escape
if we neglect so great a salvation..."
Hebrews 2:1,
3
"Lest we drift away…"
If you don't eat,
your body will become weak. If you don't feed in the Word of God,
your spirit will become weak, it's a principle - one just as sure as
the other.
Neglect of your spiritual life will make you
vulnerable to deception and to the lures of the world. As important
as it is to eat every day, it is even more important to spend time
with the Lord and feed in his Word - every day of our lives. Yet it's
the last thing on the priority list of most, and that could be
because we don't SEE the results of ignoring the daily reading of the
Scriptures and time spent with the Lord.
We live in the
physical world and the way we eat will be reflected in the physical
condition of the body. Even though we don't see it, the spiritual
realm is just as real. You don't see electricity, but you know it's
there. In the same sense, the condition of our spirit is very much
the result of what we put into it.
Take the time to nourish
your spirit in the Word of God, lest you be found neglecting “so
great a salvation."
