"Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am
weak;"
Psalm 6:2
These
words were uttered by one of the greatest men of all time, King David
whom the Lord called "a man after my own heart."
The
world values strength. The great men of this world are revered for
their strengths, their wisdom, their degrees, their reputations. But
God sees a man differently. He values the man who is not too proud to
honestly say "I am weak."
King David's greatness was
his humility and honesty before God. David did not lie to himself
about himself.
There is tremendous danger in greatness. How
many men can be men of degrees and reputation without it going to
their head? It's probably not possible because pride is the strongest
weakness in mankind. Test your degree of pride: if someone says
something unkind about you, you are angry - why? Because it hurts
your ...what?
What IS humility? It is not denying one's
strengths nor putting down one's gifts and talents, that's "false
humility" and false humility is just a ploy to gain favor.
Humility is honesty. Honesty about oneself.
"For we
brought nothing into this world,
and
it is certain we can carry nothing out."

Timothy 6:7
We have no gift whether in the world or in the
Kingdom of God which has not been given to us. And even in the
working out of our gifts and talents, we are wholly dependent upon
God if they are to be fruitful.
"...for without me you
can do nothing."
John 15:5
Let
us humble ourselves therefore, before the Lord, not with a false
humility, but with an honest testimony that all we have has been
given us, and that in ourselves we are nothing. The man who can do
this will be "a man after my own heart."
