How To Be Successful In Your Calling

September 30

"Now in the morning,
having risen a long while before daylight,

he went out and departed to a solitary place;
AND THERE HE PRAYED."
Mark 1:35

Jesus's purpose was to bring the Gospel, but note also that he would not ever neglect the prayer time. He did not make it a matter of pride, he did not blow a trumpet to tell everyone what he was doing, no, he went quietly before anyone knew; he withdrew to a solitary place, and there he prayed. He spent time before the Father, because it is prayer that gives us not only the power, but the schedule for the day. We can waste a lot of time spinning our wheels, or we can put our time in before the Throne of Grace and receive there the direction God's plan has for us.

"...let us run with endurance
the race that is set before us,

looking unto Jesus, the author
and finisher of our faith..."

Hebrews 12:1-2

"...looking unto Jesus..."

To be successful, we need to closely examine what Jesus did and do our best to follow, because he lays out for us the perfect way, and should we skip it, looking to ourselves, we will not be successful. The work, the power, the faith, the direction, the equiping, all we need, comes by following the pattern Jesus set forth, and that is to never, EVER, neglect our time of daily prayer, our communion with the Father.

It is not God's will for us to spin our wheels and tread water just so we can stay above it. Our calling is to spend time before God in prayer before we even start our day. Neglect this part, and you'll find yourself spinning your wheels endlessly. Follow Jesus in this part, and you will be thoroughly equipped as the Lord himself DIRECTS your steps.
