"Then David said, 'I will show kindness
to
Hanun the son of Nahash,
because his
father showed kindness to me.'
So
David sent messengers to comfort him
concerning his father."
1st
Chronicles 19:2
The king of neighboring Ammon died, and David
sent his servants with words of comfort to the king's son. But the
people of Ammon told the new king that David really didn't want to
comfort them, he actually was sending spies.
vs 3:
"And
the princes of the people of Ammon said to Hanun,
'Do
you really think that David honors your father
because
he has sent comforters to you?
Did
his servants not come to you to search
and to overthrow and to spy
out the land?'"
The chapter goes on to say that this lie
led to war, and thousands of lives were lost.
Because of a
lie.
This is a true Biblical demonstration of how Satan causes
disaster. From the beginning his tactic has been to cause disaster
through deception.
He suggests a lie to one's mind and creates a situation that evolves
to ill will between people, and disaster often follows.
All
because of a lie.
Jesus called Satan the father of
lies:
"When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own
resources,
for
he is
a liar
and
the
father
of
it."
John
8:44
What lies has he spoken to you?
