The Promises of God Are Certain

August 24

"And behold, you will conceive in your womb
and bring forth a Son, and shall call his name Jesus.
He will be great, and will be called
the Son of the Highest;

and the Lord God will give him
the Throne of his father David.

And he will reign over the house of Jacob forever,
and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
Luke 1:31-33

Great promises were given to Mary about her son Jesus. He is promised to be seated on the Throne of King David and to reign over Israel forever. But that was impossible, or so it seemed...

When this promise was given to Mary, Israel was under the dictatorship of the Roman Empire. There was NO Throne of David! And before that generation passed, Jerusalem was destroyed and the Jews were scattered throughout the world, making the promise seem to be impossible to fulfill.

The promises of God are sure. These promises are still awaiting fulfillment, and they most assuredly WILL be fulfilled. Jesus
WILL rule over the house of Jacob FOREVER.

Who is Jacob? Jacob is Israel:

"And God said to him, 'Your name is Jacob;

your name shall not be called Jacob anymore,
but ISRAEL shall be your name."
Genesis 35:10

Jesus was promised to rule over Israel forever and that promise still stands, in spite of its seeming impossibility. God's concept of time is different from ours. The passing of time - does not make the promise void. The facts on the ground do not make the promise void.

When Jesus comes back to this earth, he will not come to Rome. He will not come to Washington. He will come To JERUSALEM. And from Jerusalem, he WILL reign forever.

The promises of God are certain, and God is faithful to watch over his word. You can count on it.
