“And we desire that each one of you
show
the same diligence
to the full
assurance of hope until the end,
THAT
YOU DO NOT BECOME SLUGGISH
but
imitate those who through faith and patience
inherit
the promises.”
Hebrews 6:11-12
In
today’s world, “wait” isn’t in the vocabulary of most. But to
wait on the Lord is a principle he repeats again and again throughout the
Scriptures. Do not think for a moment that the passage of time
suggests that a promise will not be realized. If you wait patiently,
and maintain an attitude of praise, the promise will come to fruition
in an even greater way than what was imagined.
“And so,
after he (Abraham) had patiently endured,
he
obtained the promise.”
Hebrews
6:15
Consider Joseph who had a dream in his childhood - he
dreamed that one day his brothers would bow before him. Imagine how
he must have felt when they sold him to traders on their way to Egypt and told
their father Joseph was dead. And if that's not bad enough - consider
how he must have felt as he languished in an Egyptian prison for a
crime he did not commit. A long time passed. But in the end, there
were his brothers bowing before him.
I once asked the Lord,
concerning waiting, “how long, Lord?” because I had been praying
years for something important to me and I thought that was surely
long enough. His reply: “How long has my Son waited to receive all
the promises made to Him?”
In other words — as long as it
takes.
Just know that the length of time does not in any way
lessen the surety of the promise. Do NOT give up. Do not become
sluggish. That’s vitally important. It WILL come! Stay firm ...for
as long as it takes.
