Is There Life After Death?

January 29

"For to me, to live is Christ,
and to die is gain.
But if I live on in the flesh,
this will mean fruit from my labor.
Yet what I shall choose I cannot tell,
for I am hard-pressed between the two,
having a desire to depart and be with Christ,
which is far better.
Nevertheless to remain in the flesh
is more needful for you."

Philippians 1:21-24

Is there life after death? The apostle Paul certainly believed there is. He said he's torn between his desire "to depart and be with Christ," versus the fact that the people he had won to Christ need him here.

Paul said that departing to be with Christ is FAR BETTER. Laying in a grave is certainly not "far better," so he shows here that what IS far better is departing to be in heaven with the Lord. He lost all fear concerning death and that fear was replaced with a deep desire "to depart."

The one fearful thing though, is that not everyone goes to heaven at death. Jesus said the way is narrow and only the
few find it (Matthew 7:13-14).

So how DOES one find that narrow way? The "narrow way" is actually a person, Jesus Christ who said:

I AM THE WAY,
the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:15-16

The way to heaven is through acknowledging ourselves as sinners, receiving the Savior who was crucified in our place as he received in himself the judgment on our personal sins, and surrendering one's life to him as Lord. When he has become your Savior and your LORD, you become saved. Ask for it.

“Ask, and it will be given to you;
seek, and you will find;
knock, and it will be opened to you."
Matthew 7:7
